Edwin Woryonwon Harris, Jr.
Edwin Woryonwon Harris, Jr. is an experienced governance, regulatory compliance, and financial crimes specialist with more than twenty years of leadership experience across the public sector, financial institutions, and non-profit organizations. He currently serves as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Partner of EWH & Partners Financial Crimes Solutions Limited and is the immediate past Director General of the Inter-Governmental Action Group Against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA), an ECOWAS specialized institution based in Dakar, Senegal. In this capacity, he provides strategic guidance to clients seeking to strengthen anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing, and counter-proliferation financing frameworks, as well as advisory support on mutual evaluations, national risk assessments, anti-corruption initiatives, and related matters.
Mr. Harris has a strong record of achievement in institutional reform, policy development, risk assessment, intelligence coordination, and anti-corruption strategy. His leadership reflects a results-driven approach, a commitment to integrity and professionalism, and a focus on building effective institutions that protect financial systems from abuse.
As Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Harris leads initiatives that deliver high-quality services to help clients prevent and detect financial crimes. He also serves as a key advisory resource, supporting clients in upholding the integrity of their financial systems. During his tenure as Director General of GIABA, Mr. Harris led regional initiatives to strengthen compliance with international standards and enhance the resilience of ECOWAS Member States against money laundering, terrorist financing, and related financial crimes.
Prior to his appointment at GIABA, he served as Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit of Liberia, where he coordinated key reforms, promoted stronger institutional independence, advanced national risk assessment processes, and encouraged closer cooperation among law enforcement, supervisory, and intelligence authorities.
He has also held leadership roles in civil society and public sector institutions, including work focused on anti-money laundering, terrorist financing prevention, governance reform, democratic development, public accountability, and policy advocacy.
Mr. Harris is recognized for advancing practical reforms, strengthening institutional credibility, and promoting regional cooperation in the fight against financial crime.
